City of Palmdale Celebrates Juneteenth

PALMDALE, CA - The City of Palmdale will host an unforgettable day of celebration, reflection and community spirit to mark Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Poncitlán Square, located at 38315 9th St. East.

The free community event, hosted in partnership with Future Leaders California and the Antelope Valley Black Chamber of Commerce, will feature family-friendly entertainment for all ages. Enjoy live music performances, marvel at a spectacular showcase of classic cars, savor delicious treats from local vendors and connect with community resources.

"This celebration honors a pivotal moment in our nation's history and brings us together in a display of unity and remembrance," said Mayor Richard J. Loa. "We're proud to commemorate Juneteenth with our neighbors. By acknowledging the past together, we build a stronger future for Palmdale and reinforce our values of freedom and equality."

Juneteenth was established as a U.S. federal holiday in 2021. It commemorates the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in the last former Confederate state with news that enslaved people were free.

"Our Juneteenth celebration reflects Palmdale's commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming community," said Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt. "We worked closely with our local partners to create this annual event that honors the profound significance of the day in an atmosphere where families can celebrate together."

The City will close its administrative and business offices, Legacy Commons, community pools, SAVES and the Palmdale City Library in observance of the holiday.

For more information about the celebration, contact Deputy City Manager Nardy Lopez at 661/267-5177.
