Domestic Violence Awareness Month comes to campus with month-long slate of activities and workshops

CW: Discussion of relationship abuse and survivor resources

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), an opportunity to raise awareness about the societal issue of relationship abuse, learn together, and support survivors, because everyone deserves safe and healthy relationships.

Throughout the month of October, the Counseling and Wellness Center's Survivor Advocacy Servicesand the Office of Health Promotion and Resiliencewill be hosting special DVAM events and posting on the @bewellwwu Instagram account about actions you can take to support survivors in our lives and contribute to a culture of care.

DVAM CALENDAR OF EVENTS:

Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.: DVAM Resource Fair (new location this year!)

Stop by our purple tables on South Campus by the Comm Lawn to help us kick off DVAM at WWU! Pick up a purple DVAM ribbon, consent stickers, Healthy Relationships checklist, and a free T-shirt while supplies last. We invite faculty and staff to stop by and pick up resources for their offices as well.

Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Purple Butterfly Community Art Project, Multicultural Center, VU 7th Floor

Participate in a community art project to raise awareness about the challenges faced by survivors who are also impacted by immigration.

Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 1-3 p.m. in the VU 6th Floor Lobby: Resource Table - We Are All Worthy of Healthy Relationships

Stop by our resource table to participate in a green flag/red flag activity, pick up healthy relationship resources, and learn about student support resources.

Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 1-3 p.m. in the VU 6th Floor Lobby: Resource Table - Survivors Are Worthy of Care and Support

Stop by our resource table to write a message of support to survivors in our community and put together your own self-care package for you or a friend.

Friday, Oct. 17, from noon to 1 p.m. in Miller Hall 115: Workshop - Healthy Relationship Skills for Kids and Families

Do you work with or care for children? Learn together and share tools for teaching young people about healthy relationships in this engaging workshop.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR FACULTY & STAFF:

Faculty and staff are invited to schedule a Supporting Survivors trainingfor their office or department during fall and winter quarters. Co-hosted by Survivor Advocacy Servicesand the Civil Rights and Title IX Office. More information can be found on the DVAM website.
