Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee, released the following statement regarding President Trump's consideration of military action against Iran:
"The president should be focused on reducing costs for Americans, not abusing his power to start more foreign wars. Unilateral action by the president without justification to the American people or approval from Congress isn't just unconstitutional - it undermines America's credibility and security around the world.
"No one disputes that the Iranian regime is a brutal dictatorship that abuses its people and is a destabilizing threat to the United States and our allies, but without a clear plan and objective, we risk engaging in another forever war in the Middle East.
"No one should be comfortable with Congress giving President Trump a blank check for war at the taxpayers' expense."
