The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that Serbia pursues an independent and sovereign foreign policy, based on its own interests and the principles of international law.
The statement notes that Serbia's relations with countries around the world, including those of the Arab world, Israel and many other partners, form part of such a balanced and responsible policy.
"We consider the statements made by United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese to be unbalanced and activist in nature, and as such inappropriate for the office she holds. They do not reflect Serbia's actual position, nor do they contribute to a constructive international dialogue.
It is particularly concerning when such assessments are intertwined with her comments that directly encroach upon Serbia's internal political issues. This is not the role of any international rapporteur and constitutes unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of our country.
Serbia remains open to cooperation with the United Nations, on whose behalf Rapporteur Albanese clearly does not speak, as well as with all partners, but it also expects full respect for its sovereignty, institutions and democratic processes," the statement reads.
